Local Information
On this page we will tell you how to book your accommodation and provide information about the Railway and Llangollen.
Llangollen Railway
The Llangollen Railway currently occupies a section (Llangollen to Carrog) of the former Ruabon to Barmouth route in North Wales. Passenger traffic ceased in 1965, however goods traffic continued along the line until 1968 when the railway was finally closed. The track and signalling were removed the following month and unfortunately this left the buildings and trackbed to the mercy of mother nature. However all was not lost as a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers got to work in restoring a section of the track to its former glory. It was in September of 1975 that the railway staged its first open day with a grand total of 60 feet of track, this was just the beginning and since then the railway has rarely looked back. Thanks to the efforts of the volunteers the railway has now extended to some 7 and a half miles and runs through some of the most beautiful scenery in the Area.
Unfortunately due the Llangollen Railway website undergoing a major update, the links to the gradient profile and line guide are currently unavailable. However I am pleased to include this video guide to the Llangollen Railway (Recorded and Compiled by Lee Davies). The video features footage taken at various points along the line from start (Llangollen) to finish (Carrog). To view the video please click on the link below (File is approx 13.5Mb in size and is in Windows Media format (WMV)).
